Love this movie sad though Vincente Minnelli didn't win the Oscar for best director for an American In Paris. GOD he is sexy! Where has this man BEEN all my life. Give me life. Loving this ❤. This movie was a really pleasant, funny and poetic moment.
It was refreshing to come back at a time when shameless sex or gratuitous violence was kept out the screen. I was happily surprised to see that values as honesty, sincerity were affirmed. The character played by Gene is symbolic in that way: when he receives lavish gifts from his "sponsor" he intends to pay. When his girl admits that she sees another man, he quits her immediately. In that way, films can be really helpful to their audience by lifting their doubts or answering their questions.
In addition, the musical sequences are used here in a dreamy thus compelling way. The dance and the music illustrate the characters' feelings and don't stop the story. Better, this choice enhances the pleasure. Minelli has a taste similar to Lynch as they prefer to direct mood than shot a linear, straight movie. And they achieve their accomplishments with surprising basic camera moves: when the characters dance, it's almost shot continuously, with no cuts or zoom.
On the other hand, Gene and her partner are charming, the colors are vivid: it's really a dedication to what is the best in life. Surely, Paris is a great place for romance and it was funny to see that french are depicted as wearing berets (as in a later Simpsons episode. In all cases, it's true that french places and inside furniture haven't changed a lot and that's maybe our antic taste that makes the spell.
In conclusion, this movie worths all the awards and much more.

Vafsi Tati [ edit] Vafsi is a dialect of Tati language spoken in the Vafs village and surrounding area in the Markazi province of Iran. The dialects of the Tafresh region share many features with the Central Plateau dialects, however their lexical inventory has many items in common with the Talysh subgroup. Vafsi has six short vowel phonemes, five long vowel phonemes and two nasal vowel phonemes. The consonant inventory is basically the same as in Persian. Nouns are inflected for gender (masculine, feminine), number (singular, plural) and case (direct, oblique). The oblique case marks the possessor (preceding the head noun), the definite direct object, nouns governed by a preposition, and the subject of transitive verbs in the past tense. Personal pronouns are inflected for number (singular, plural) and case (direct, oblique). A set of enclitic pronouns is used to indicate the agent of transitive verbs in the past tenses. There are two demonstrative pronouns: one for near deixis, one for remote deixis. The use of the Persian ezafe construction is spreading, however there is also a native possessive construction, consisting of the possessor (unmarked or marked by the oblique case) preceding the head noun. The verbal inflection is based on two stems: present and past stem. Person and number are indicated personal suffixes attached to the stem. In the transitive past tense the verb consists of the bare past stem and personal concord with the subject is provided by enclitic pronouns following the stem or a constituent preceding the verb. Two modal prefixes are used to convey modal and aspectual information. The past participle is employed in the formation of compound tenses. Vafsi is a split ergative language: Split ergativity means that a language has in one domain accusative morphosyntax and in another domain ergative morphosyntax. In Vafsi the present tense is structured the accusative way and the past tense is structured the ergative way. Accusative morphosyntax means that in a language subjects of intransitive and transitive verbs are treated the same way and direct objects are treated another way. Ergative morphosyntax means that in a language subjects of intransitive verbs and direct objects are treated one way and subjects of transitive verbs are treated another way. In the Vafsi past tense subjects of intransitive verbs and direct objects are marked by the direct case whereas subjects of transitive verbs are marked by the oblique case. This feature characterizes the Vafsi past tense as ergative. The unmarked order of constituents is SOV like in most other Iranian languages. Harzandi Tati [ edit] Harzani is considered an endangered language with a little less than 30, 000 speakers in present day. [19] Its speakers principally reside in the rural district of Harzand, particularly in the village known as Galin Ghaya /Kohriz. Harzani is also present in the neighboring villages of Babratein and Dash Harzand. [20] As of now, Harzani has not been formally recognized by the Islamic Republic of Iran, and thus receives no government support. [21] Like other languages and dialects of the Iranian language family, Harzani follows a subject–object–verb (SOV) word order. It has nine vowels, and shares a consonant inventory with Persian. It further exhibits a split-ergative case system: its present tense is structured to follow nominative-accusative patterning, while its past tense follows ergative-absolutive. One characteristic that distinguishes Harzani from related Northwestern Iranian languages is its change from an intervocalic /d/ to an /r/. [22] It also has a tendency to lengthen its vowels. For instance, it has the closed vowel /oe/. [ citation needed] Nouns and pronouns in Harzani do not reflect grammatical gender, but they do express case. Nouns, in particular, encode two cases: direct and oblique case, the first of which is not rendered morphologically, but the second is by attaching a suffix. Meanwhile, personal pronouns have three cases: direct, oblique, and possessive. Verbs in Harzani are inflected for present tense and past tense. Information concerning person and number is reflected in suffixes that attach to these two verb stems. Modal and aspectual information is expressed using prefixes. Kho'ini Tati [ edit] It is spoken in the village of Xoin and surrounding areas, about 60 kilometres (37 mi) southwest of Zanjan city in northern Iran. The Xoini verbal system follows the general pattern found in other Tati dialects. However, the dialect has its own special characteristics such as continuous present which is formed by the past stem, a preverb shift, and the use of connective sounds. The dialect is in danger of extinction. Nouns have two cases: direct and oblique. Contrary to the often case in Persian, adjective is not Post-positive. The suffixes may be attached to the verb; the agent of the verb in an ergative construction; an adverb; a prepositional or postpositional phrase; and in a compound verb to its nominal Complement. The same set of endings is used for the present and the subjunctive. The endings of the preterit and the present perfect are basically the enclitic present forms of the verb 'to be' ( *ah-, here called base one). For pluperfect and subjunctive perfect the freestanding auxiliary verb 'to be' ( *bav-, here called base two) is utilized. There is no ending for singular imperative and it is -ân for plural. For the inflections of "to be" see "Auxiliary inflection" below. The past and present stems are irregular and shaped by historical developments, e. g. : w uj- / w ut- (to say); xaraš-/xarat- (to sell); taj-/tat- (to run). However, in many verbs the past stem is built on the present stem by adding -(e)st; e. : brem- → brem est - (to weep). The imperative is formed by the modal prefix be- if the verb contains no preverb, plus the present stem and without ending in the singular and with -ân in the plural. be- is often changed to bi-, bo- or bu- according to the situation, and appears as b- before a vowel of a verbal stem. Kiliti Tati [ edit] Kiliti is a Tati dialect of Azerbaijan that is closely related to Talysh. It is spoken in the villages around Kilit, located 12 kilometers southwest from the city of Ordubad in a district with the same name of Nakhchivan in Azerbaijan. Tati and Talysh [ edit] Tati and Talysh are Northwestern Iranian languages which are close to each other. Although Talysh and Tati are two languages that have affected each other in various levels, the degree of this effect in different places are not the same. In fact the very closeness of the two dialects has been a major reason for impossibility of drawing clear borderlines between them. It happens that Tati varieties can be seen in the heart of Talysh districts, or Talysh varieties are found in the center of Tati districts. This claim is supported by focusing on linguistic characteristics of Tati and Talysh, the history of the interrelation between the two dialects, geographical parameters of the area, as well as the phonological, morphological, and lexical examples. Under the impression it was impossible to make it from Madrid to Lisbon by bus or train, I flew in around noon and only later learned that a bus would have been an option too. Anyway, was happy I could walk to my hotel from the airport, checked in, took a deep breath, got ready and met A. and her mom near the venue at 3. First we went for a tea, but decided to go to the venue around 4 (or was it 3:30 even? ) and were the first ones in line. The doors were still wide open, the tour bus parked in front and equipment set up. We said hello to the crew and settled in for the wait. More equipment was brought into the venue and since the venue staff did it, Poets’ crew watched them working, Marko H. even filming the whole thing. So here we were, chatting, joking and getting excited about the concert. A few people had just joined us when a car pulled up, spilling out Marko, Captain and Jaska. We said hello to them, I joked that we were security and they had to get past us. We had some nice conversations and could listen to the acoustic songs through the door. It got considerably colder and our entry was delayed due to the support band having sound trouble. They sounded pretty metal from where we stood. Not bad though. Eventually we got inside and despite one free spot at the front on the far right, I chose to stand behind A. and her mom at the center. It was a narrow venue anyway, the stage smaller than the previous two had been. There was a nice balcony too – maybe next time. 😉 This was the smallest venue on this leg. I didn’t count, but front row can’t have been more than 15 people if that. The stage wasn’t that high either and there were no barriers so it was going to be up close and personal. 🙂 At 9 support Kandia started playing and they weren’t as heavy as they sounded from the outside. They also didn’t sound as good, sadly. It wasn’t their fault, but the drums were too loud, I could hardly hear the singer and the sound was a bit muddy overall. It was fun to watch them though, they powered through their set and seemed to enjoy being there. The music was good, but nothing I would remember later. They got us into the mood though and we were clapping along when they asked us to. It was a nice start. I was already smiling. excitement was contagious too and neither of us could wait for the show to start. 🙂 Just before I Finallysaw Marko peaking through the curtains from the back. the intro was playing and we were clapping along. When it was time to scream, A. and I did and everyone cheered as the guys walked on stage. However, I caught myself thinking “You’re gonna have to do better than that! ” Compared to the previous night’s audience the response here was a bit slow. People were clearly having fun though and warmed up to it after a while, getting more into it and growing louder. 😀 From the start I was watching A. often – this was “her” show after all, the one she never expected to happen and had been waiting for for a long time. It made me so happy to see her there, completely lost in the music and even though I could not see her face most of the time, I sure knew what the expression on it looked like – the mixture of awe and happiness that appears on all of our faces when we go to their concerts. 😉 Luckily the sound had improved since the support act, but the light was a bit harsch on the eyes at times and the guys at the back were often lost in the fog. (What is it with those smoke machines anyway – is there an unwritten rule that they absolutely have to be used if they are part of the equipment? 😛 I yet have to meet someone who doesn’t find it annoying when they can’t see the musicians on stage due to all the smoke. ) So it was not a good show for taking pictures and I considered giving my camera a rest, but then could not bring myself to putting it down completely. None of this spoiledmy enjoyment though. It was indeed up close and personal and I got a lot of nice views from where I stood. 😀 With the smaller stage, it was difficult to see everyone, because the others got in the way and the band had less room to move, but they didn’t stand still anyway. Somewhere early on, Jaska moved across the stage at the same time Marko moved backwards and bumped into him. Both laughed about it and and hugged. There were a lot of hugs on stage that night, but I cannot remember them all. What I do remember is that both Olli and Jaska got their guitar hero moments when the rest of the band watched in awe and we all cheered for them. Marko spent a lot of time singing to people at the front and even to the ones on the balcony. Every time he sang to A. I did my best to take pictures of it. Only when he turned to me I put the camera down and sang right back to him. It happened many times that night, but the only line I clearly remember is “Can I get a ride with you? ” Sure, but I assume we’d be a lot faster in your car than on my bicycle. 😉 Each one of them was making connections with the audience, smiling, pointing or just showing us when to clap or jump. The guys had to work a little bit harder than the previous nights, but their energy was enough to draw everyone in after a while. They are such great performers that one can’t help admiring their skills. I still marvel at how good they are. 🙂 People around me looked so happy, as if they could not quite believe their luck. It all came back to me then, what it was like seeing them for the first time. I, too, felt lucky to be there. 🙂 It was so much fun to sing along, jump or just watch them do their thing and listen. I thought I might get sad at this gig, because I’d have to return to real life the next day, but that proved impossible. There was no room for sad feelings, only happiness and the band gave all they had to make it so. Often I saw them singing along to the songs just like we did and it made me smile so much. During ‘The Sweet Escape’ I turned around to see all the phone lights and it looked gorgeous. ‘Temple of Thought’ was announced as a song that someone named as their favorite so the band was going to make them happy now. 😀 Apart from that I believe ‘War’ and ‘Late Goodbye’ got the strongest audience reaction, but I won’t try selling that for a fact. The sing-along was wonderful though. How we had gotten to the encores again this quickly I could not say. Why does time always go so fast when it is most enjoyable? Taking a deep breath I got ready for more jumping and singing, screaming loudly when the guys came back to the stage. I tried to get a good look at everyone before it all ended, noting the smiles on their faces and how much they were lost in the music. I held out my hands during ‘Diamonds for Tears’ as I always do. This time Marko held out his hand and motioned for us to grab it. I waited for someone else to go first, but then joined them. Marko’s hand was really sweaty, but he held on tight. 😀 For a moment that caused a flashback to a concert somewhere in Germany (Munich? ), back in 2012 I think. I still have a picture of that moment. <3 ‘Lift’ was crazy with lots and lots of jumping and ‘Carnival of Rust’ was just beautiful. It took people a little bit to figure out which song it was, but once they did the noise was unbelievable. Singing along with all my might I was willing time to stop, but it didn’t. Soon the guys waved goodbye, smiled, took a picture with us and shook a few hands on the way out. Each one of them looked happy with the show and they thanked us a million times before finally walking off. Maybe hey wanted this to end as little as I did? When it was over the smile on A. ’s face said it all. I remembered the first show in my city well, I knew the feeling. We stuck around for a bit, because she needed to pass her presents to the crew. Then we had a few words with Tiia before she needed to start packing. Afterwards, we decided to wait for the guys outside by the tour bus to say goodbye. It is something I usually do not do, because I do not want to bother them, but that night it seemed the way to go. We stood by the side of the bus and left it to the guys if they were in the mood to talk to us or not. Jani came and wanted to know how we liked the show, said they had enjoyed it very much. Olli asked if we were all good – of course we were! – and everyone else just waved in passing. We waved back, called out our goodbyes and watched as the bus drove away. When it turned the corner, away from us, it suddenly started raining. The seemed a perfectly fitting end to a great night. Even heaven was crying because it was over. Before the gig we’d thought we go out for a drink, but we felt tired now and decided to do that some other time. I said goodbye to everyone and slowly walked back to my guesthouse, thinking about what a great trip this had been, totally happy that I had the chance to be there. When I first watched the film, I thought the pacing was way too quick for me to actually understand what was going on. Although I will say that the fire fighter scenes were pretty intense regardless if they were only training or had to attend buildings that were on fire due to fireworks.
I understood this films backdrop involving the feeling of losing someone through drowning and honestly the ending was a near hard hitter for me. However I would have liked if the couples experience together was more in depth because as I said yet again, it was rather rushed. It didn't give much in depth either with the other guy who had a crush on her or if he was going for someone else. Since I'm not gonna say spoilers to telling you who's who, it's best to watch the film.
Animation wise, it was pretty alright. Not amazeballs but it was easy on the eyes at least.
As much as the film did offer a bit of emotion, it's not the ultimate worse or disappointment I've ever seen. However room for improvement is what it definitely definitely needs in terms of story pace development.

Saw it on premiere on september 24 at Budapest's Corvin Mozi.
Probably the most essential thing to know about this movie is that it was made for television in the first place and later they considered pushing it into the Oscars, for big screens, as they thought it has the potential to win something. It probably has that potential but I don't think that it would be because the movie is that good. maybe for the acting as it was quite strong from the two main protagonists, or for the screenplay. Oh and for the music, that is indeed Oscar-worthy for today's standards. But if for anything other than that. well, then I would smell something fishinness behind that.
So as a TV movie this picture is far better than great. It has a distinctive visual atmosphere with its gray fuminess and late, cold autumny colors, the cinematography is beyond adequate for such TV movie norma, the world the story plays in is really authentic, beholds many details that reflects those old times. The dialouges are clevelry written, they behold the realism but also some theatrical factor for dramatic purposes. The acting is top-notch from the main protagonists, they bring well detailed characteristics into their relationship by which we really hold their connection close to our hearts, but overall all the cast did a good job. The soundtrack has probably the most appeal for an award as it has that really almost-but-not-yet cheesiness that can easily win your ears over, but overall a very pleasant music to listen to, reminded me of Clint Mansell's previous works.
What the whole movie might fall short on is the world building that plays in the post-war dictaturic times. There are some snipets about the oppression they maintained on all these people lived in the post-war city, however, other than having some tricky questions from the "comrades" it never went further than that, it didn't fully bring the overall alienating effect it should have for the story/narrative. It was kinda like only a world building element in order to remind the auidence what times this plays in, never fully did anything more than that. And probably, the ending, which refers onto this dictature didn't feel that cathartic, because of that "only-world-building-element" reason.
Talking with others on premiere some people found the whole fast paced evolution of the protagoninst's relationship unconvincing and out of place, that it needed much deeper, elaborative, slower tendencies to go through. Personaly I had no issue with it at all. I found the relationship really natural and organic in its own way, it was indeed a connection that is not that easily achievable by anyone, but these two somehow had the luck to have a mostly healthy relationship that helped both of them in some ways to heal all the scars the war times brought onto them.
So. basicly, that's all I got to say about this movie. From TV movie standpoints I found it really solidly done, a nicely put together motion picture that is pleasant to watch. For Oscar worthy theatrical experience it might fall behind a bit as it has some lack of details and elaboratness, so - even though I have no respect for Oscars nowadays - I kinda feel this movie has only oscar-worthiness on a few, specific fields and even there there is always much bigger fishes to fight against on awards like this. Again, if it wins any award other than the music, acting, or (maybe) for screenplay then there is something fishy back there in Hollywood (but it's Hollywood, the Oscars, so there is more dirty business than anything else today.
